Royaume s’effondre
This is an auteur-style circus piece performed by six artists and rooted in a biographical approach. Inspired by the recent passing of the artist’s father, it unfolds in different chapters that trace the impulses, silences, and inner turmoil that led him to leave everything behind and start a new life in Thailand.
Through this intimate narrative, the artist explores inherited legacies, models of masculinity stemming from a patriarchal society, and the influence of family norms on his generation—particularly in how romantic and emotional relationships are approached.
This project centers on a new object: the Tilting Floor. Intentionally designed to serve as both an acrobatic apparatus and a stage prop, this floor transforms and deconstructs itself throughout the performance, evoking different places, inner states, and power dynamics. Each configuration brings forth varied forms of acrobatic language by isolating, highlighting, or destabilizing bodies in space.
As the piece unfolds, the structure evolves until only a single element remains: a plank, which becomes a Korean plank. This shift toward high-flying acrobatics marks a point of tension and momentum, where risk, fall, and flight physically embody the possibility of a new beginning. The evolution of the Tilting Floor thus symbolizes both the decline of a structure and the necessity of its transformation to open up a new space of freedom.
