Making Time is the new creation by artist-choreographer Sasha Kleinplatz who, for her new work, puts dance artists and percussionists in dialogue. In Making Time, the drum becomes an extension of the human and the human an extension of the drum, an instrument capable of influencing not only soundscapes, but also the way a body vibrates and moves through space and time. The piece will examine the following questions: How does playing an instrument affect the body and brain? What types of resonances, reactions, and inspirations can an instrument provoke in the performers? Making Time is in the tradition of the Cyborg Manifesto by theorist Donna Haraway. In this text, Haraway proposes the idea of a future "hybrid human," holding a political potential to think about new incarnations, new experiences of the self, and ways of living in the future. Haraway explains how perceiving oneself as a hybrid, or more than human, and deeply interconnected with technology, animals, and nature, can lead to a sense of co-responsibility and co-creation of worlds. In Making Time, the drum becomes an extension of the human and the human an extension of the drum. Making Time is interested in the drum as a sound technology capable of influencing not only soundscapes, but also the way a body vibrates and moves through space and time.
