How can we go on living our everyday lives in the face of the nightly spectacle of global chaos on the television news? We can always close our eyes, but when our entire bodies are shaped, swallowed up, and spat back out by the torrent of current events, we have to start searching within ourselves for a little coherence, even at the level of language, in order to piece together a sentence that allows us to say something meaningful. A fierce polemic against television, Vu d’ici acts as a wake-up call, allowing us to become aware of the insidious and devastating effects of this all-seeing screen trained on our lives. Nothing happens, there is no plot, no salvation, and what is horrible is that we learn more quickly to live alongside atrocities by changing the channel or staring into the void than to question everything in the face of the spectacle of the world’s collapse. I like sushi, nice weather, the smell of freshly cut grass, the smell of gasoline, letting go of the gas pump trigger at just the right moment so that the total comes to an exact number, and yet, what is this dull, tiny anxiety...
