Alone on stage
for an hour and a half, Jocelyn Pelletier interprets this hard-hitting text in which nothing is spared: suburban life, the market economy, violence, popular culture, narrow-mindedness, politics, and more. Vu d'ici comes across as a diatribe against television and the social numbing it generates. It is an attack on excessive media coverage that trivializes, desensitizes, enslaves, and flattens everything in its path. It is also a virulent critique of contemporary Quebec society, with television production acting as its reflection. Yet far beyond a simple condemnation, Vu d'ici is intended as a call to dissidence—to combat futility and inaction, and to awaken a sleeping generation. Director Christian Lapointe brings youth's cry of revolt to the stage through a powerful and resolutely politically incorrect voice. Vu d'ici serves as a wake-up call, forcing us to realize the pernicious and devastating effects of this omniscient screen trained on our lives.
