TEMPS UNIVERSEL +1 is a project based on a monologue of the same name about the intricacies of memory as a perceptual phenomenon, written by author Roland Schimmelpfennig. This digitally-infused solo seeks to meld the performer’s stage presence with a dreamlike flow of digital imagery.
Like memory, video has the ability to archive memories, while at the same time it can distort them in the unstable flux of editing. This solo was envisioned as a way to navigate through the mental space of a woman, who is alone on stage in tandem – and sometimes in thrall to – the memory-screens around her. Video is used here as a short-circuiting agent, a mirage-maker, and a catalyst for perceptually overwhelming us and giving way to memory-as-substance. The piece uses video to highlight its similarities and dissonances vis-à-vis the phenomenon of memory itself.
