Alone on stage, Antoine Charbonneau-Demers delivers the story of his submission: a psychological thriller in 13 chapters. The writer has long been trapped in a disturbing game. As a child, he would wear his mother’s brown skirt to play the house servant. Now, at 30, he is still struggling against servitude. He is at the mercy of everyone, but especially of his ambitions and an insatiable thirst for attention. The appearance of Happy, a disturbing character, upends the course of the story. He offers his services as a servant to the writer, just for fun. He wants to become his servant, his doormat, his toy, his thing, without expecting anything in return. But are Happy’s intentions as innocent as they seem? As he watches Happy wash dishes and take out the trash with chilling devotion, the writer wonders who is really enjoying all this. «Free me from my servant!» he screams. Mon serviteur depicts a game of power and manipulation, of Machiavellianism and sadism. It’s a terrifying struggle for emancipation.
