Making Time is a full-length choreography, for four dancers and three drummers. This work explores how the dancing body engages with the act of drumming, and how the drumming body engages with dancing. It will look at the question of how playing an instrument affects the body, and brain, what type of resonances, responses and inspirations an instrument can provoke in performers?
Making Time thinks alongside theorist Donna Haraway's Cyborg Manifesto. In this text, Haraway proposes the idea of a future "hybrid human" that can be the site of political potential for thinking through new embodiments, experiences of person-ness, and ways of living into the future. Haraway talks through how seeing ourselves as hybrid, or more-than-human, and deeply interconnected with technology, animals, and nature can lead to a sense of co-responsibility in, and co-creation of worlds. In the case of Making Time, the drum becomes an extension of the human and the human becomes an extension of the drum. Making Time is interested in drumming as a sound technology that can affect not just sonic landscapes but the way a body vibrates and moves through space and time.
