Lui is an existential fantasy, a kind of waking dream. A solo performance by Pier Dufour, puppeteer-performer and practitioner of puppet theatre and object theatre. This poetic fable simply establishes a disconcerting yet necessary intimacy — another version of oneself. This new puppet work for adults was built around a quote by writer Gustave Flaubert: “The future torments us, the past holds us back, and that is why the present escapes us.” Lui tells us what is most intimate while reaching toward the universal: a humanity that is at once suffering and creative, where light bursts forth and comforts the shadow within us all. Marc-Antoine Cyr offers us a lucid and poetic narrative through a handful of reflections that cast a different light on life and transport us into a world of joy, gravity, subtlety, and life-affirming restraint, where KoBoL once again creates a work that conveys what is essential. We discover treasures there… Treasures that we share with you.
