“The oldest and most violent emotion of mankind is fear. And the oldest and most violent fear is the fear of the unknown.”
— H.P. Lovecraft
You find yourself somewhere, but you don’t know where
People you don’t know are staring at you
Without really knowing why, you feel guilty
Something is buried, but you don’t know what
You’re afraid, without really knowing why
The Other Theatre returns in spring 2016 with a new bilingual production inspired by the work of H.P. Lovecraft and directed by Stacey Christodoulou. By evoking a touch of horror and a touch of anxiety, the company explores Lovecraft’s famous short story, The Colour Out of Space. In the tale, an anonymous narrator recounts the history of an area the locals have dubbed the “Thundered Heath,” located in the wild hills west of Arkham, Massachusetts. The narrator discovers that a meteorite crashed there several years ago, draining the life force from everything living in the vicinity; the vegetation is lush but tasteless, the animals are driven mad and their bodies grotesquely deformed, and people go mad or die one after another.
