OURI
Ouri is both a producer and a performing artist, a DJ, a cello & harp player, a vocalist, songwriter and composer. Heralded in the electronic music space for a breadth of sound that reaches into the variety of her abilities, Ouri grows beyond its confines for the next phase of her career as a solo artist. Ourielle Auvé, known professionally as Ouri, grew up in France in a family of afro-carribean descent before arriving in Montreal at the age of 16 to pursue a degree in composition. Here her artistry and vision were able to flourish, establishing herself in the city’s music community as a producer, collaborating with peers like Helena Deland and Mind Bath, and circulating Montreal’s rich, underground rave culture with wizardry late-night DJ sets.
HELENA DELAND
Helena Deland's latest musical release is far from conventional. To compose volumes III and IV of "Altogether Unaccompanied", the Montreal-based artist has gathered memories that she presents in songs. The whole thing is more like an old photo album or a string of unsent letters than a traditional EP.
"It's the particularity of the character of each song that I try to capture," she says of this singular series; "They belong to a whole, but live on their own. However, one cannot ignore the undeniable link between these last two volumes and the previous ones: each of the songs is nostalgic, intimate and deeply affecting. The songs oscillate between tender folk, synthpop tunes and 80's inspired alternative music.
