Le silence de la mer

1941. War, occupied France, an uncle, his niece, a peaceful home. Then, an order from the German army: an officer will share their home, a German officer. And so, rebellion, silence. The silence of the uncle, of the niece. The silence of the sea. But then, the officer arrives. A virtuous man, a Francophile. Days pass, months, a year. The uncle and his niece remain silent. The officer relentlessly tries to break their silence. They are alike. Out of dignity, out of hope, out of restraint, they tear themselves apart. Bound by cultures locked in conflict. Outside, the world is ablaze.
