When God designed our world, he was short of cash, and so he was forced to borrow money from the Devil to complete his creation. And from this debt would result the omnipresence of the Devil who has watched carefully over his assets since the beginning.
It is from this premise that the performer Jean-François Boisvenue sets out to give us a stage essay exploring the theme of indebtedness and credit. Through various sketches ranging from dance to theatre to a cooking show, the author and performer shows us the many facets of the debt, whether personal or collective.
Taken from documentary, poetic, humorous or autobiographical angles, this solo allows us to glimpse the various – often insidious – ways in which credit governs the mechanics of our lives.
In 2017, with the first showing of La Dette de Dieu as a work in progress at ZH Festival, Jean-François Boisvenue won the CEAD Prize of the most promising author.
