Jerk is an uncompromising, frightening, and darkly funny reenactment of the crimes committed by American serial killer Dean Corll, who, with the help of two teenagers, David Brooks and Wayne Henley, murdered more than twenty boys in the state of Texas in the mid-1970s. In the play, David Brooks is serving a life sentence. In prison, he learns the art of puppetry and writes a play that reconstructs Dean Corll’s murders. He performs his show in prison for a class of psychology students, represented by the audience. Jerk blends sexuality and violence in a style reminiscent of gore aesthetics.
