Glued to our screens, what void are we trying to fill in this ephemeral search for affection from people we don’t know, or barely know? Do we still have dreams and ideals of love and integrity that have not yet been formatted by images received from television, movies and news? Can our relationship with others still be authentic, even with the incessant hum of consumer culture that drones on and surrounds us?
Continuously torn between our real and virtual personae, we are faced with a conflict between our own personal quests, and those promoted by the media. How much power do we really have on our own selves, in this world, when having a hold on our identity and on our leaders is so difficult? The never ending cycle of buying, throwing and searching for the ideal product has rendered us insatiable, has inflated our desires. Did we integrate market rules into our intimate relationships?
Ivresse accurately depicts the growing individualism that is considerably damaging our ability to be with another person. By launching the spectator into the midst of dialogues and monologues that carefully dissect the multiple relationships between two individuals, Ivresse invites the spectator to turn inwards, immerse himself in the performance, and re-examine his relationship to the actor, to the show and to the virtual world.
