Hewa Rwanda, lettre aux absents

Thirty years after the Tutsi genocide, the leading Rwandan theatre artist Dorcy Rugamba is making space to commune with the dead. Together with the Senegalese musician Majnun, he has staged a unique ceremony that is at once a love letter to his family and a vibrant hymn to life. In a delicate and moving performance drawing on texts from his book, he mixespersonal stories and songs to trace a new path toward those who are no longer with us. Inspired by the artistic and spiritual heritage of his poet and choreographer father, he combines storytelling with sparse gestures in a poignant embodiment of remembrance, seeking out memories that deepen his writing’s poetic impact alongside the words that bring peace.
