A performative dance piece based on the multi-sensorial sharing of the intimate, El Silencio de las cosas presentes is a reflection on haptic* sensations and pain. Marked by their personal stories and memories, the bodies of the three performers – Sophie Levasseur, Marie Mougeolle and Eduardo Ruiz Vergara – evolve to create a shift in perception and time. The exploration of physical boundaries of the body is built as a polyphonic chant, both disconcerting and familiar.
Set to the score of an immersive sonic landscape designed by Nathan Giroux and Gabriel Vignola, with Lee Anholt’s unsettling lighting, this choreo-haptic piece in the “Traces-Chorégraphes” series is a durational proposition on the edge of dance, performance and theatre. El Silencio eschews representational modes in favour of relational ones, placing perception and imagination in a constant dialogue around the succession of bodily states that form the strange palette of the piece.
* Haptics : from the Ancient Greek ἅπτομαι (haptomai) is the scientific study of touch, particularly in relation to sensation, proprioception, and kinesthetic perception.
