In 1999, Marie Chouinard choreographed a solo for a male performer for the first time: Des feux dans la nuit. With this 50-minute work, she creates intense and unsettling variations on masculinity. Energetic and gentle, tormented and serene, this solo, like her earlier works, exudes a powerful life instinct. Accompanied by *La Musique des mots* by Rober Racine, the piece unfolds in space like a journey through the intimacy and fragility of man. Marie Chouinard deciphers, one by one, the complexities of the male universe and offers a distilled form of life stripped of all artifice and open to the world. Supported by a score performed live on piano by the author himself, Rober Racine, Manuel Roque dances in a work where the silence between movements reveals an infinitely benevolent strength.
