A concert centered on Pierre Boulez’s Le Marteau sans maître. Half a century after its premiere, the exotic sounds of this landmark work by Pierre Boulez still captivate the ear as much as they did on day one. But let’s call a spade a spade: Le Marteau still isn’t played in elevators. Why not? This burning question inspired Complètement marteau \!\!\!, a performance in which a group of intrepid young musicians play music that is undeniably complex in a relaxed, convivial, and welcoming setting. In addition to the rare opportunity to hear Le Marteau sans maître performed live, the program features new works by young Quebec composers Alexis Lemay and Charles-Alexandre Corbeil, as well as a piece by Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu.
