Caligula, the Roman Emperor, realizes upon the death of Drusilla, his sister and lover, that “men die and they are not happy.” From that moment on, he embarks on an excessive quest for the absolute that will lead him all the way to modern icons such as the DJ and the orchestra conductor. Caligula is a grotesque farce that only a few characters with a “surplus of soul” pull back toward humanity.
