Recently having given birth and now confronted with her own mortality, benu, a 30-year-old woman, contemplates life and death. In a Toronto hospital, her blood pressure mysteriously rises like a phoenix, triggering a series of strange physical and mental illnesses that lead her down a path of fear, discovery, and renewal. Reality intersects with myth, magic intertwines with ritual, and an autofictional-mythologico-graphic narrative unfolds at full intensity, while an ancient Egyptian myth is told in parallel—that of the phoenix, the bird of Benu.
